<br />
A good friend of mine recently lost her dog, so I decided to bust out the acrylics and paint a portrait of him. I know how important he was to her. <br />
<br />
I primed the canvas, started sketching, and then busted out the paints. <br />
It ended up having a pop-art sort of feel once it was completely done.<br />
I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.<br />
<br />

<br />
I know it's been a long time since I've posted on this blog, but I have barely had any time this year for anything! However, now that it's summer break and I'm finally getting my energy (and sanity!) back, I finally have a bit of time to do things I enjoy doing.<br />
<br />
And, the first thing I've created this summer is actually a gift for a family member. The only thing I wish is that I had been able to find a similar frame that was slightly bigger because I feel so bad that the image is so small!<br />
<br />
<b>If you want to create something similar, here's what you need:</b><br />
-Wooden frame<br />
-Wood burner<br />
-Pencil & eraser (for sketching)<br />
-A quote<br />
-Possibly a map....<br />
-Scrapbooking markers/pens<br />
-Photograph<br />
<br />
<b>Here's what you need to do:</b><br />
1. Sketch out your frame. Because the person I was making this was moving away, I added locations into the mix. I also added a quote that really fit.<br />
2. Sand any uneven corners down.<br />
3. Carefully burn your sketches & quotes. I had to stop a few times because I find that my wrist often hurts after a certain period of time.<br />
4. Colour in anything you wish to colour<br />
5. Pop the picture in!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here's how it looked closer to the beginning</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">It's getting there...</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">So close!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Et voila! The final product</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
This makes a great keepsake and I guarantee the person who receives this gift will love it!<br />
It's so easy to personalize. You could do something similar for a birthday, best friend, wedding, retirement, anything really!<br />
<br />
And don't worry friends, I've already got the next creation done for my next Blog post!<br />
<br />
Happy crafting!<br />

So I thought of something that would make him think of our school. I decided on a little project that was logo based. <br />
<br />
Originally I was going to do the entire project in wood burning. But, after a while I decided it needed the colour added to it, so the final product below is a combination of wood burning and paint. I think I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. All I used for this project was: Wood, wood burner, green, yellow, white, and black acrylic paint, and varnish.<br />
<br />
The pictures below capture the project during various stages of the process.<br />

It was part of my boyfriend's gift this year. <br />
I know he likes dragons, so I decided to get ambitious and sketch out the head of a medieval dragon.<br />
<br />
Because I've never drawn a dragon, I decided to Youtube a 5 minute time-lapse video of someone sketching a dragon head. I used the video for reference as I went along. I used a variety of H and B sketching pencils as well as several tortillons (smudge sticks). I did end up spraying it with a fixative to prevent it from smudging. I would never use hairspray because overtime that would just yellow the picture, and I want it to be preserved well. I have since matted and framed it (black mat, white frame).<br />
<br />
And here is the final result (which both he & his family LOVED!)!<br />
In fact, he's already hung it up in his room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q72kFZ82Rv0/VJ2aLIXg76I/AAAAAAAAApE/hsa_5LWrUVE/s1600/dragonsketch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q72kFZ82Rv0/VJ2aLIXg76I/AAAAAAAAApE/hsa_5LWrUVE/s1600/dragonsketch.jpg" height="235" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Enjoy the rest of the holidays!<br />

<br />
So I started looking for ideas. I found an idea I really liked on Pinterest. The only problem was, it was created from fabric. So...I went looking at Michaels for fabric mittens, but had no luck. So I thought, why not make them out of wood and I can just paint them up. Luckily my Dad is very talented with his wood work. So, I drew out the mittens and Dad cut them out so they looked like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2BGNcrCnGxk/VIvAJetNbzI/AAAAAAAAAoc/7haTzVgZBIA/s1600/mitten1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2BGNcrCnGxk/VIvAJetNbzI/AAAAAAAAAoc/7haTzVgZBIA/s1600/mitten1.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
Then, I took my paint and got to work:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s548lQi07tQ/VIvAy6T5q1I/AAAAAAAAAok/Pl651YI1Xv8/s1600/mittens2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s548lQi07tQ/VIvAy6T5q1I/AAAAAAAAAok/Pl651YI1Xv8/s1600/mittens2.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
And then I added the text:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NwjGHpdc144/VIvBA988ipI/AAAAAAAAAos/DJkoazw7a8o/s1600/mittens3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NwjGHpdc144/VIvBA988ipI/AAAAAAAAAos/DJkoazw7a8o/s1600/mittens3.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
All I needed to do was add some yarn and place them on his tree!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-31qmDtb36Po/VIvBNlaEVsI/AAAAAAAAAo0/CObmA4BcgcM/s1600/mittenstree.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-31qmDtb36Po/VIvBNlaEVsI/AAAAAAAAAo0/CObmA4BcgcM/s1600/mittenstree.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Needless to say both my boyfriend and his family absolutely loved the ornaments!<br />

Plus, my boyfriend was saying he needed more artwork in his room. So, this provided me with the perfect excuse to make it (as if I needed one anyway...). The only thing different from the original I saw on Pinterest was, I took some of the sayings off (I couldn't fit them all!) and changed the paper choice. <br />
<br />
It's a really easy project to make, it just takes hours to make, and here's what you need to make it:<br />
<br />
-Canvas<br />
-Modge Podge<br />
-Cricut<br />
-Scrapbook paper<br />
-Paint<br />
-Paper cutter<br />
-Paint brush (optional)<br />
<br />
First, I borrowed my best friend's Cricut (THANK YOU MEL!), popped in my black scrapbook paper and punched in the letters I needed.....I realized I was short a couple of letters and just did the best I could to sketch them out and cut them out with scissors. Here's hoping you can't tell which ones I made myself....<br />
<br />
Next, take your paper cutter and chop your chosen patterned scrapbook paper into blocks and arrange on your canvas (glue these down with Modge Podge once you're content with the look and feel).<br />
<br />
After that has dried, it's now time to glue down your cute little sentences. You can once again use your Modge Podge (I go through so much of this stuff!). After it's dried for a bit, start coating your entire canvas with a coat of Modge Podge. I sort of went between a thick paint brush and just smudging it on with my finger. If you use a paint brush, you need to make sure the bristles don't come out and get stuck onto your masterpiece.<br />
<br />
Once it was all dried, I took my black paint, painted the heart in the "Beat of my Heart" sentence and the star in "Twinkle in my Eye" sentence.<br />
<br />
Lastly, after the paint had dried, I coated the canvas in several more coats. You really want to seal it in.<br />
<br />
Anddddd now it's ready to display! And yes, it has been proudly on display in my boyfriend's bedroom for a couple of months now. And yes, he did love it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P1JAwqQOpXE/VB73PiSLipI/AAAAAAAAAnQ/ja7GiEXl8Ek/s1600/picforblog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P1JAwqQOpXE/VB73PiSLipI/AAAAAAAAAnQ/ja7GiEXl8Ek/s1600/picforblog.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The final product!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
Enjoy what's left of the weekend!<br />

So, in the spirit of pumpkin pie, beautifully coloured leaves, pumpkin spiced lattes, spiced pumpkin, caramel, and apple candles from Bath and Body works, I've decided to post a couple of fall photos from my photography collection.<br />
<br />
Enjoy & have a pumpkin spiced latte today! I know I will!<br />

I was really excited when my friend Stacey asked me if I'd be interested in burning a sign from part of a stump for her trailer. I mean, when am I ever not up for a challenge? Although I must admit, I was a little worried about my little burner not being able to handle the big stump. Luckily though, it pulled through. There were many times where the wood was definitely a little tough to burn through, but I'm definitely happy with how it turned out! I wish I had taken a before picture of the stump before.....Oops!</div>
<br />
Check out the progress as I burned away...<br />

I'm always uncomfortable shipping anything anywhere.....because....well....we know how reliable Canada Post is...I haven't had many good experiences with their services, can you tell?<br />
<br />
Luckily though, this painting made it to its destination safe and sound!<br />
<br />
Actually, my friend Rita had asked if I could create a personalized painting for her newest little bundle of joy (Jackson), similar to the one I created several years ago for her oldest son Ben. So, I was more than happy to get started on it. I kind of wish I had been able to get it there before he was born though....Oops!<br />
<br />
I just used acrylic on canvas (my favourite type of paint) and bought some wooden letters from Michael's Arts & Crafts store. I had to paint the letters black and then glue them on with a glue gun once the painting was entirely dry.<br />
<br />
You might remember Ben's painting from several years ago:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And here is Jackson's painting:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I can't believe I forgot to post this before I went away on vacation...</div>
I guess I was in a rush to get out of this "cold" weather and into some actual summer weather...<br />
<br />
Before I left I had a baby shower to attend for my good friend, Sarah. She was hoping to have an owl themed nursery for the little girl she has on the way...and you know me, I like to create! So...I put together a couple of little owls for her nursery. Her nursery colours are: Purple and grey with lime green as the accent colour (how fantastic are those colours together?!). For these little owls I just used acrylic paint on canvas. <br />
<br />
Here are some pictures to illustrate how they turned out!<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

</div>
Well the other day, the boyfriend said he needed to get a frame for a picture of us from my sister's wedding. However...I got thinking.....and I told him not to worry, I'd come up with something. <br />
<br />
Picture frames are a fantastic gift for anybody, and there are a million ways to make them personal! All you need is a quote and some art and craft supplies!<br />
<br />
For this particular frame, I got the picture idea from something I saw online....and found the quote online as well....but I drew it out on the wooden frame and grabbed by wood burning kit and burned away. Of course I had to be super careful though...because I usually used the tapered tip for writing....and guess what decided to break as I was in the middle of working away? That is correct...the tapered tip.....and, in a rush I went to Michaels, but they were out of those replacement kits....so I had to make do with another tip.<br />
<br />
Now, because I'm a perfectionist, I may have "goofed up" on the first one and redid it entirely...<br />
<br />
But, either way, I'm definitely happy with the end result! And, my boyfriend loved it! The best part of this project? The frame is only $1.50!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lv629_uPzt8/U8bXRQLHg4I/AAAAAAAAAkw/vDpVPJukZ6M/s1600/finalframe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lv629_uPzt8/U8bXRQLHg4I/AAAAAAAAAkw/vDpVPJukZ6M/s1600/finalframe.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And now back to painting...<br />
<br />
A.A.Artsy_Allyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12057653145516169153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-900106307953336668.post-20670737061901697742014-07-14T13:55:00.000-07:002014-07-14T13:55:46.488-07:00I can't believe I didn't post this yet!So the wedding happened a week ago and I can't believe I didn't post a picture yet!<br />
<br />
Believe it or not, I did take a couple "before" burning shots...However, my phone is ridiculous and I think on the outs...so the photos didn't save...And because of this, all I have is an "after" shot.<br />
<br />
I used my usual wood burning kit and a wood piece I purchased from Michaels. Whatever you do, always make sure you sketch it out lightly on a piece of wood before actually diving in. <br />
<br />
*Another helpful little tip: Use compressed air to blow all the eraser shavings out of the areas where you've done your wood burning (after you've gone over your sketching and erased the lines).<br />
<br />
This is what I made for a part of my sister's wedding gift:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q7JPcsYSK6E/U8RCZU7qdVI/AAAAAAAAAkU/cFhz2gYki8E/s1600/forblog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q7JPcsYSK6E/U8RCZU7qdVI/AAAAAAAAAkU/cFhz2gYki8E/s1600/forblog.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

<br />
But....I was finally able to do something artsy! (THANK GOD!). And soon I'll have a bit more time during the day to dabble in the arts again for a few weeks! Woohoo! So I'm sure I can come up with a few more posts over the next few weeks....<br />
<br />
My sister's one shower theme was "cupcakes..." so part of the gift was a little cupcake canvas (I'll post a pic below). You should have seen how frustrated I became....I re-did the canvas 3 times because I didn't like it. I'm not a perfectionist at all.........<br />
<br />
I have to admit..I kept getting stumped on how I wanted the background to look, what colour to do the cupcake liner, etc. I already knew what colour I wanted the icing to be.....so that wasn't an issue....but enough babbling from me....<br />
<br />
Here is the final canvas!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v64lwFn4o0c/U6eDNq4WFGI/AAAAAAAAAkA/gLI6DzO0tug/s1600/cupcake.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v64lwFn4o0c/U6eDNq4WFGI/AAAAAAAAAkA/gLI6DzO0tug/s1600/cupcake.jpg" height="320" width="251" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />Artsy_Allyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12057653145516169153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-900106307953336668.post-90415834353624420142014-03-16T10:47:00.001-07:002014-03-16T10:47:04.843-07:00Another little project...So it was my Mom's 50th birthday this past week….and I decided to make something a little personal for her.<br />
<br />
So, I busted out the wood burner and invested some time into some pyrography.<br />
<br />
This is a super easy project..but the wood on these frames isn't easy to burn…I will warn everyone. But a very inexpensive gift to make for anyone. All you need is a wood burning kit, pencil and eraser, and a wooden frame (they're $1.50 each at Michaels).<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yeITTpF8q_E/UyXi8b6UJ6I/AAAAAAAAAik/0SZIKYdXXdw/s1600/michaelsframes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yeITTpF8q_E/UyXi8b6UJ6I/AAAAAAAAAik/0SZIKYdXXdw/s1600/michaelsframes.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">There are several different ones to choose from</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
All I did was sketch out the picture I wanted to burn onto the frame lightly. I say lightly because you may change your mind (says an indecisive individual) and want to change the design slightly...or entirely….as you go along. <br />
<br />
After you've sketched out your drawing and you are sure you are happy with it, plug in the wood burner and let it warm up for about 10 minutes or so. You definitely need the HOTTEST setting for this wood.<br />
<br />
Once it's heated you may carefully begin burning your design.<br />
<br />
I didn't bother varnishing this frame. Although, I did think about using some paint and making a washed colour overtop of it..but I opted to keep it natural. <br />
<br />
Here's the final result!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vk4QdrcXd04/UyXi08FhnUI/AAAAAAAAAic/9nvQTC0-vgo/s1600/frame.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vk4QdrcXd04/UyXi08FhnUI/AAAAAAAAAic/9nvQTC0-vgo/s1600/frame.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I hope she likes it!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>

I was also in the mood to do some wood burning….so I decided to create a name sign (the gift was for a wedding).<br />
<br />
Wish you could create something similar? It's not difficult and wood burning (also known as pyrography) is a lot of fun.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Here's what you need:</u></b><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Wood</li>
<li>Pencil/eraser (for sketching)</li>
<li>Wood Burning Tool kit with a variety of ends (I use the Walnut Hollow Creative Versa Tool kit. Buy it at Michaels when there's a 50% off coupon. http://www.amazon.ca/Walnut-Hollow-23906-Creative-Versa-Tool/dp/B000VRRBRM)</li>
<li>Varnish</li>
<li>Sandpaper</li>
</ul>
<div>
First, decide on what you want the final image to look like and sketch it lightly on the wood.</div>
<div>
Next, start burning away.</div>
<div>
Then sand down any rough edges you may have.</div>
<div>
Varnish.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Enjoy!</div>
<div>
See. It's easy! You just have to have the patience to spend a few hours creating it on a Sunday afternoon. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here's the final product:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qQC1CSvmHPY/Uxztfue189I/AAAAAAAAAiI/btv-g6lG0mE/s1600/quinlanplaque.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qQC1CSvmHPY/Uxztfue189I/AAAAAAAAAiI/btv-g6lG0mE/s1600/quinlanplaque.jpg" height="205" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I hope Pat & Dawn like it :)<br /></td></tr>

<br />
So…in order to tie people over (and because I've had NO time to do any art because of the insanity that is called work), I'm just going to put up a couple of pictures I've taken over the years. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Photo of my sister in the style of Annie Leibovitz</td></tr>

<br />
So to tie you over…I decided to throw up some old photos I've taken in the past. I apologize if I've thrown any of these images up before…..but photography used to be huge passion for me. I still enjoy it…but i just don't have the time I wish I had to actually put into it these days…<br />
<br />
So here are a 2 photos from a few years ago now…<br />
<br />
The pansies were taken at my cottage and then I played in Photoshop to make it look like a painting….<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7o8h9c74seE/UvgkGnH_oBI/AAAAAAAAAhQ/dPb4Xg8Av9Y/s1600/pansiessite.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7o8h9c74seE/UvgkGnH_oBI/AAAAAAAAAhQ/dPb4Xg8Av9Y/s1600/pansiessite.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The picture of my sister in pop-art style was also finalized in Photoshop.<br />
<br />

My niece loves owls…so I decided to paint a couple of cute little owls for part of her Christmas present! <br />
<br />
<b><u>Materials needed:</u></b><br />
<ul>
<li>Gesso</li>
<li>Canvas</li>
<li>Pencil/eraser</li>
<li>Acrylic paints</li>
<li>Paint brushes</li>
<li>Water</li>
<li>Paper towel</li>
</ul>
<div>
<b><u>The method to my madness:</u></b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's the usual steps to creating any type of acrylic painting….</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<ol>
<li>First, I primed the canvas with a little gesso.</li>
<li>After the canvas had set for 24 hours, I sketched my little owls onto the canvas.</li>
<li>Then, I painted the owls and let them dry.</li>
<li>Lastly, I completed the touchups. </li>
</ol>
<div>
Here they are! I hope she likes them!</div>
</div>
<div>

I decided to make snowmen mugs and filled them with "Snowman Soup."<br />
<br />
However, I decided to follow something on Pinterest that I had wanted to do for a few months…but it's definitely something that I DON'T recommend doing. I wasted so much time!!!!<br />
<br />
I decided to make the Sharpie mugs that you bake in the oven that are apparently "permanent." Folks, don't waste your time! I did a bunch of research on them and followed the tips provided by others who had similar problems that I did, and it still didn't work properly! Parts of the snowmen faces continued to chip off. Instead, I had to re-do all of them 3 times…and I ended up using ceramic paint instead (this can also be used on glass). So don't go the Sharpie route (I even tried the oil paint Sharpie pens….still didn't work). <br />
<br />
<b><u>What you need:</u></b><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>White ceramic mugs (Dollarama - $1 each)</li>
<li>Black & orange ceramic paint (I used Folkart Enamel Acrylic paint)</li>
<li>Thin tips that you can place on the top of the paint bottles so you don't need to use a paint brush (I bought a pack of 6 and used my 40% off coupon at Michaels)</li>
<li>Oven</li>
<li>Hot chocolate</li>
<li>Marshmallows (optional - a lot of my kids can't have gelatin)</li>
<li>Small candy canes</li>
<li>Black construction paper</li>
<li>Clear baggies</li>
<li>Snowman soup label (I used this one: <a href="http://christmas.organizedhome.com/sites/christmas.organizedhome.com/files/image/pdf/gift_tags_snowman_soup_swirl.pdf">http://christmas.organizedhome.com/sites/christmas.organizedhome.com/files/image/pdf/gift_tags_snowman_soup_swirl.pdf</a>) </li>
</ul>
<div>
<b><u>What to do:</u></b></div>
<div>
<ol>
<li>Take any stickers off of the mugs. Ensure that they are clean. Use some rubbing alcohol to clean the surface you will be painting.</li>
<li>Take the lids off the black and orange paints and replace the lids with the thin painting tips. </li>
<li>Draw the eyes and mouth onto the surface of the mug.</li>
<li>Draw the carrot nose onto the surface of the mug.</li>
<li>After drawing the snowmen faces on all of the mugs, let it dry. I believe they need to dry for an hour before cooking. </li>
<li>Place all of the mugs on a cooking sheet (or two in my case).</li>
<li>Place the cooking sheets holding the mugs into the oven. Turn the oven on and up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and cook for 30 minutes. Once the 30 minutes is up, turn the oven off and leave the mugs in the oven. If you take the mugs out of the oven right away, they can actually break from the drastic change in temperature. </li>
<li>Once the oven is cooled down, take the baking sheets with your mugs out, and place on top of the oven. I let my mugs stay out overnight (it was late when I cooked them).</li>
<li>Now, put together the little baggies of Snowman Soup. I took a little baggie, put in a pouch of hot chocolate, small candy cane, marshmallows (for my kids who can have gelatin), and a little tag with the snowman soup verse. I then topped each baggie off with a little snowman hat (I cut them out of black construction paper). I also have a couple of kids who are lactose intolerant, so instead of putting hot chocolate pouches in the clear baggies, I put hot apple cider baggies in theirs, along with 2 candy canes.</li>
<li>Place the baggies inside of the mugs.</li>
</ol>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A final mug after cooking</td></tr>

So, I'll save it for next Christmas.<br />
<br />
This is super easy to do & makes such a super cute little gift for a friend or family member.<br />
<br />
Want to make one? Here's what you need:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>A wooden moose (or other creature)</li>
<li>Some scrapbook paper</li>
<li>White paint (or black)</li>
<li>A sponge (or small piece of a sponge)</li>
<li>Modge Podge</li>
<li>Pencil</li>
</ul>
<div>
Here's all you need to do:</div>
<div>
<ol>
<li>First, place the moose on top of the scrapbook paper (paper face up - otherwise it will be backwards), trace, and cut out.</li>
<li>Next, use the Modge Podge as a glue and glue the scrapbook paper on top of the moose.</li>
<li>Let it dry for about 20 minutes to half an hour.</li>
<li>Take a little bit of paint and put it on the sponge. Gently (and carefully) sponge paint around the edge of the moose.</li>
<li>Let dry for about 45 minutes or so.</li>
<li>Lastly, use the Modge Podge as a sealer/varnish and coat the ornament in several times. I only did one on the back and several coats on the front.</li>
</ol>
<div>
See how easy that was?! And it's so cute!</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My little moose before the sponge paint.</td></tr>

<br />
So in the spirit of Christmas, I decided to make a couple of snowman Christmas bulbs for the tree. They're super easy to make for little gifts and really don't take a super long time to make. <br />
<br />
<b>Here's what you need:</b><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li> Clear, round glass bulbs (the ones you can decorate yourself). And just a heads up: You can get a pack of them from Michael's usually 50% off every so often :).</li>
<li> Black paint marker </li>
<li> Orange paint marker</li>
<li> Fake snow, cotton balls, white glitter, or snowflake sprinkles (I used iridescent ones)</li>
<li> Black felt</li>
<li> Cardstock</li>
<li> <a href="http://www.fleecefun.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/fleece-fun-mini-top-hat-ornament.pdf" target="_blank">Top hat pattern</a></li>
<li> Scissors</li>
<li> Glue/Modge Podge </li>
<li> Glue gun & glue sticks</li>
</ul>
<div>
<b>What to do… Start with the snowman face first:</b></div>
<div>
1. Take the top off the clear bulb.</div>
<div>
2. Fill it with snowflake sprinkles. You'll either need a funnel or a piece of paper that you can fold into a funnel-like shape. This was the part that I found took quite a while (especially with a large bulb…..). Place the top back on the clear bulb like so:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6yPZhQcwDXA/UpKVCjFoeRI/AAAAAAAAAe0/3MZFKAHJ404/s1600/bulb1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6yPZhQcwDXA/UpKVCjFoeRI/AAAAAAAAAe0/3MZFKAHJ404/s200/bulb1.jpg" width="173" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is what the bulb should look like once it's filled with snowflakes</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
3. Take your black paint marker and paint on the eyes and mouth.</div>
<div>
4. Take your orange paint marker and paint on the carrot nose.</div>
<div>
5. Let it dry for a few minutes. You don't want the paint to smudge.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EW5hwFuqCLQ/UpKVCRsxZCI/AAAAAAAAAfI/seLk5pMxqlI/s1600/bulb2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EW5hwFuqCLQ/UpKVCRsxZCI/AAAAAAAAAfI/seLk5pMxqlI/s200/bulb2.jpg" width="183" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here's one of the snowmen faces</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Next up… The top hat:</b></div>
<div>
1. Take the <a href="http://www.fleecefun.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/fleece-fun-mini-top-hat-ornament.pdf" target="_blank">pattern</a> and print it out on card stock (this is going to be a part of the actual top hat). </div>
<div>
2. Cut out the pattern.</div>
<div>
3. Place each part of the pattern on top of the black felt and cut out. </div>
<div>
4. Now trim down the pattern to where it says on the card stock.</div>

6. Roll the body of the top hat up, and glue with the glue gun where both sides line up. Hold for a minute.</div>
<div>
7. Glue the bottom of the top hat to the bottom of the body of the top hat.</div>
<div>
8. Place the top hat onto the top of the bulb. Attach an ornament hook to the top of the bulb and pull through the top of the hat.</div>

9. Poke the ornament hook through the middle of the top of the top hat.</div>

10. Glue the top of the top hat to the body of the top hat.</div>

11. Glue the top hat onto the head of the snowman.</div>

And you're done! They are ready to hang up on the tree! Easy, no?</div>

Life needs to slow down a bit...just a bit....<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm sorry folks! I know it's been so long since I've posted something! I'm horrible! Work has taken over my life and I really haven't been getting home until after 6 most nights...pretty sad when I'm there super early in the morning, and my school gets out at 2:30 each day.....But anyways...I decided tonight to take 5 minutes to myself and create something for the library at work..it's sort of become an annual thing that the kids expect now....so how could I stop doing it?</div>
<br />
Looking for something fast and cute for autumn or Halloween?<br />
Look no further!<br />
<br />
<b>What do you need?</b><br />
-Some small gourds, outdoor paint or paint pens. <br />
<br />
<b>What do you do?</b><br />
1. Wipe the gourds off. You want all the dirt/dust off of them before you begin.<br />
2. Decide on the faces you want to draw/paint on these little guys. Think silly and funny. Kids LOVE them!<br />
3. Paint the faces on!<br />
<br />
I promise, that's it! Easy right? Here's what I came up with in 5 minutes....so fast, so simple, and so super easy!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7X-IDCaomGg/UlH70-sRtgI/AAAAAAAAAeY/pmBJf0V9SGE/s1600/pumpkins.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="183" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7X-IDCaomGg/UlH70-sRtgI/AAAAAAAAAeY/pmBJf0V9SGE/s400/pumpkins.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Aren't they cute?!<br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VDYqR4ZKZUI/UlH78hg0F3I/AAAAAAAAAek/PJpJmt7WnKw/s1600/fave.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VDYqR4ZKZUI/UlH78hg0F3I/AAAAAAAAAek/PJpJmt7WnKw/s400/fave.jpg" width="361" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My fave little guy!</td></tr>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I can't say this is my own idea...</div>
But, I decided to make something I saw online.<br />
It's pretty easy to do and they make a cute little gift.<br />
<br />
<u><b>What you need:</b></u><br />
-Small candle wicks<br />
-Large sea shells<br />
-Candle wax<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hO8Xs_13dzE/Ue8cg6gQ9PI/AAAAAAAAAdk/cPpn-CxLWb0/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hO8Xs_13dzE/Ue8cg6gQ9PI/AAAAAAAAAdk/cPpn-CxLWb0/s320/1.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">These were some of the shells I picked up</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I saved wax that had similar scents and mixed some unscented candle wax from some tea lights I had, in with the scented wax as well. That way it isn't too overpowering.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Here's what you need to do:</u></b><br />
1. Melt the wax in a microwave safe bowl at 30 second intervals.<br />
2. Once the wax is melted (or some of it is at least - it doesn't need to be entirely melted for this part), pour a tiny blob of wax into the shell, place the wick, and hold in place. Let it sit and harden for a minute or two.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SLmydAwxWws/Ue8cqOyExnI/AAAAAAAAAds/xbxoHd_4n90/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SLmydAwxWws/Ue8cqOyExnI/AAAAAAAAAds/xbxoHd_4n90/s320/2.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here's one of my shells with the wax hardening<br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
3. *You may have to melt the wax more at this point, depending on how much you melted for step #2.* Pour more wax into the shell until it is filled almost to the top of the shell. I found that I actually had to pour the wax almost in layers in certain types of shells (I'd pour some wax in, then let it sit. Once it was almost entirely hardened, I'd pour more wax in, and so on...). It's also important to note that some shells will want to tip and spill wax out the sides (as I learned...). So it is possible you'll want the shells leaning into something so that they don't tip over. You could always use play dough or stick tac. <br />
4. Trim the wick and you're done!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JK8VVAolH6U/Ue8dPC2IUYI/AAAAAAAAAd8/xHiCly8ITUs/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JK8VVAolH6U/Ue8dPC2IUYI/AAAAAAAAAd8/xHiCly8ITUs/s320/4.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here are the final candles! Cute or what?!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ei9XpUz6Amw/Ue8ddXqCgqI/AAAAAAAAAeI/1CdYb3yy4sE/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ei9XpUz6Amw/Ue8ddXqCgqI/AAAAAAAAAeI/1CdYb3yy4sE/s320/5.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is my favourite candle :)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
These are super cute to make from that leftover candle wax and seashells you bring home from trips away!<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

</div>
So I really like to personalize gifts whenever I get the chance. Especially when it's for good friends. So I decided to create another woodburning project for a wedding gift for my friends Katie and Eric.<br />
So I decided to create a little wooden plaque. Keep in mind this is only the second time I've done woodburning. But I have to admit, I'm quite content with how it turned out!<br />
<br />
All you need to create something like this is: A wood burner (with various interchangeable tips - mine came as a kit (by Walnut Hollow) and I used a 50% off coupon at Michaels to save some $$$), a pencil, eraser, wood, and varnish.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y2LpU_I3tQc/UeNT9l2tlaI/AAAAAAAAAdU/Ccph2Mej7f8/s1600/woodburner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y2LpU_I3tQc/UeNT9l2tlaI/AAAAAAAAAdU/Ccph2Mej7f8/s320/woodburner.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My woodburner kit by Walnut Hollow</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I wanted to create something fun, but personalized, so here is what I ended up sketching on the wood:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0VM-kYNBe94/UeNNpGPEJmI/AAAAAAAAAck/ctYA_TyE2M4/s1600/sketch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0VM-kYNBe94/UeNNpGPEJmI/AAAAAAAAAck/ctYA_TyE2M4/s320/sketch.jpg" width="237" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Now, here are a couple of things I like to remember when I'm woodburning:</div>
<ul>
<li>Take a break every so often (your hands get quite sore!).</li>
<li>Always pay close attention to how you are holding the burner. It doesn't take much for the burner to slip and burn your hand! (not speaking from experience whatsoever.....).</li>
<li>Always make sure when it isn't in use that it is turned off, unplugged, and sitting properly in the holder (away from anything else - the last thing you want is for your house to burn down!).</li>
<li>Always have a scrap piece of wood handy so that you can brush any ash off, or test any burns/cuts you may want to make. </li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And here is how the plaque looked as it progressed over time:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-khzmWnMAIhM/UeNOVKGOAOI/AAAAAAAAAcs/w-miVBd-mhY/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-khzmWnMAIhM/UeNOVKGOAOI/AAAAAAAAAcs/w-miVBd-mhY/s320/2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OiLZQj7wtSQ/UeNOxvpCluI/AAAAAAAAAc0/gxfyJH0BIyo/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OiLZQj7wtSQ/UeNOxvpCluI/AAAAAAAAAc0/gxfyJH0BIyo/s320/3.jpg" width="224" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
*Drum roll please*</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Here is the final product! I decided to inscribe the back as well....which took quite a bit longer than I anticipated....along with some extremely sore hands.....<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Lo7yjSYCTbs/UeNPDLp5lVI/AAAAAAAAAdA/NqiE2HGwVsY/s1600/back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Lo7yjSYCTbs/UeNPDLp5lVI/AAAAAAAAAdA/NqiE2HGwVsY/s400/back.jpg" width="306" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The back of the plaque inscribed</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yVbvm_KpYTk/UeNPE5fGf4I/AAAAAAAAAdI/sGEpEUDr-2M/s1600/final.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yVbvm_KpYTk/UeNPE5fGf4I/AAAAAAAAAdI/sGEpEUDr-2M/s400/final.jpg" width="302" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The final product!!!!!! </td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Before it was completely finished, I made sure to coat both sides of the plaque in a matte varnish to help preserve it. <br />
<br />
I hope Katie and Eric enjoy it! <br />
